The Giro D’Italia was first organised in 1909 in order to increase sales for La Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper. Since then it’s been held every year, apart from when it was stopped for two World Wars.

RIESE PIO X Sun 26th May - Riese Pio X to Brescia

This year the race will break with
tradition and finish in Brescia,
rather than the usual finish in
Milan.

This is the long flat stage of the
race and will finish with five
circuits in Brescia

SILANDRO Sat 25th - Silandro to Tre Cime Laveredo

Highlights - Silandro is well-known
for its church tower which is the
highest in S'outh Tyrol at 92 metres

Tre Cime di Lavaredo’s three
peaks will be the final mountain
stages of the race. The stage will
end at the 2,333m high Rifugio
Auronzo at the foot of the Tre Cime
di Lavaredo.

PONTE DI LEGNO Fri 24th - Ponte Di Legno to Val Martello

Highlights - Ponte Di Legno is a
ski resort with great access to 46
individual pistes and 30 ski lifts.

This section is the final mountain
stages of the race - cyclists will
climb 22km at over 2,000m to reach
Val Martello

CARAVAGGION Wed 22nd May - Caravaggion to Vicenza

Highlights - Vicenza is about 40
minutes from historic Verona, you
can travel by train between the two.
Verona is home of the famous love
story of Romeo and Juliet and the
renowned ancient Amphitheatre
which hosts the Verona Operas

This part of the race goes into
France, into Galibier, which is
often the highest single point in the
Tour De France

Mola Di Bari Thur 9th - Mola Di Bari to Di Savoia 154km

Highlights - Mola di Bari is a small
coastal town in the Southern Italian
region of Puglia. 30 minutes from
the town is Savelletri Di Fasano,
known for its beautiful landscapes
and coastline, as well as its
fantastic seafood.

name in 1879 in honour of Queen

Highlights - Consena is known as
the city of the Bruzi and is one of
the most ancient cities of Calabria.
Matera is known for its extensive
cave-dwelling districts, the Sassi
and is probably one of the most
unusual and memorable places in
Italy. Mel Gibson’s film the Passion
of the Christ was filmed in Matera
because it resembles Jerusalem
at the time of Christ. The town is
now a UNESCO World Heritage
Site.
